It is been only one month since we started 2023 and we can already confirm that the Artificial Intelligence will be the protagonist of the year or, at least, will keep us busy for a lot of time (which is a bit contradictory), but someone will have to play with all the different AI platforms are being launched.
Artificial Intelligence in a few words
… what ChatGPT says:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are designed to think and act like humans. These machines can be programmed to perform tasks such as recognizing speech, making decisions, and solving problems. AI systems use algorithms, mathematical models, and data to make predictions, take actions, and learn from experience.
ChatGPT
… what Oxford Languages says:
the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks normally requiring human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.

For the Terminator movie fans… sorry but the AI will not turn into a Skynet mind that will take the control of our lives. Personally, I think AI is a new tool that helps to optimize the productivity of some tasks and potentially will make our day-to-day life less challenging.
Artificial intelligence, as the name suggests, refers basically to machines mimicking human intelligence, which of course, makes intelligence artificial. But it doesn’t mean they could ever gain consciousness. So don’t worry.
On the other hand, we will see how AI will affect the current job positions and if it will finally replace humans for some tasks, but I am sure it will enable new jobs and opportunities as any other new technology does.
AI is not new…
AI is not new, we have been interacting almost every day with AIs since a few years ago already. I raised this question to ChatGPT and these are the activities in which AI was already involved:
- Image and speech recognition
- Natural language processing (NLP) and language translation
- Recommendation systems in e-commerce and entertainment
- Self-driving cars and autonomous robots
- Fraud detection and cyber security
- Healthcare diagnosis and treatment planning
- Virtual personal assistants and chatbots
- Predictive maintenance in manufacturing
- Financial trading and portfolio management
- Criminal investigations and crime prediction.
Then, why 2023 is The Year? Well, as it happens with any other disruptive technology like the blockchain, for example, it takes time until the level of maturity and adoption is high enough to start seeing real implementation.
In the last couple of years, we were part of a huge technology development and the number of new projects based on AI and the blockchain broke records. Now businesses, governments, and big institutions can see the added value of this and start building use cases with it.
